In Islam, the hadith are the collected sayings, actions, and traditions of the Prophet Muhammad. Along with the Quran, hadith are a primary source of guidance for Muslims on worship, ethics, law, and life conduct. Considered supplemental to the Quran, hadith provide context for interpreting the Quranic revelation. Muslims treat hadith reverently as they detail the example set by the Prophet that all Muslims should emulate. However, they evaluate hadith sources and authenticity carefully before using hadith to derive religious rulings.
